Prosperity Tip: No Excuses!
People often tell me why they aren’t able to make “enough” money. The most common include:
- I have a low self-image
- My needs weren’t met as a child
- What I did was never enough for my father
- I’m not very good with money (or numbers)
- I don’t know enough about marketing
- I feel pushy if I’m trying to sell someone my products or service
- Actually, the list could go on and on.
Here’s a fact: every one of the reasons given is an excuse for not moving forward. And everything listed above can be altered with conscious intention and effort — effort being the operative word. Continue reading
Doing Nothing Is Doing Something
Last week, I posted a tip to my Facebook fan page suggesting that people take a few minutes each day to do nothing. As I’ve thought about this, I realized that if you’re alive, it’s impossible to do nothing. You are always breathing and usually thinking. And doing nothing is actually doing something.
That led my mind to think about how we really do get to choose our moment to moment activities and point of focus. We can choose to be ultra-busy, highly stressed, in fear, or acting compulsively (eating, drinking, shopping, etc.), or the choice can be to pace ourselves carefully, approach everything in a relaxed manner, trust in a positive outcome, or make deliberate choices.
Some people seem to thrive in high stress situations. When I was younger and working for a nightly network television show, I loved the fast pace and daily pressure, but was taking lots of Valium and eating more than my share of sugar and junk foods. In the long run, it proved to be disastrous physically and emotionally. Continue reading
Don’t Quit Before the Miracle
Last week, I received a desperate email from a Prosperity Tips subscriber who I’ll call Sam. At his wits end, Sam stated, “I am dead emotionally. and physically soon.” He went on to say that he had no job and had no way to pay his bills. “Death is best,” he said in closing.
I heard Sam’s hopeless cries and knew I had to contact him. I googled his name and location, which was the only information I had, and thanks to his LinkedIn profile, discovered where he had last worked. They gave me his phone number and I left a message for Sam to call me.
He did call and we spoke for almost an hour. Sam had been out of work for 18 months, despite sending out dozens of resumes. With no good news, Sam spiraled into depression.
It took a while to help Sam see that he really did have options and opportunities for gratitude, and that what he was learning about himself during this troubled time was important. Finally, he laughed a bit and felt like he could face another day. He promised to call me the next day. Continue reading
The Strong Will Survive
The storm continues to batter the world financial systems, causing havoc for many. But you, as an individual, have significant control over your own destiny, even in these tough times.
First of all, you have choices. You can choose to wait until you get clobbered or take steps to behave differently. Instead of spending freely, this is the time to be frugal and actually save something, putting off the “I want” purchases until you have a better idea what’s happening in your life. Cash is king.
You can also choose to maintain a positive frame of mind. The situation that exists is not good or bad, it just is. The situation is neutral. You bring to the situation the emotions that determine whether it is good or bad for you.
We live in a dualistic world and for every up there’s a down, for every positive there’s a negative. Within each situation you can find light and dark. You can choose what you want to see. And those who can find the good, the light, and the positive can grow and flourish. Those who focus on the dark, the bad, and the negative will suffer in discomfort.
Facing the reality of what is going on allows you to examine alternatives and develop a plan of action. If you hide your head in the sand and give in to paralysis, you can’t adjust to these changing times.
We are going through a major paradigm shift and this level of change is always uncomfortable for those going through it. If you can look towards a positive future, pay attention to what’s happening for you in the moment, and do whatever you can to deal with the stress, you will survive and can potentially be one of the people who actually benefit, in the long run, from what is going on.
Don’t hide. Reach out to others and be authentic about what is going on for you. Invite a group of people to come together to discuss how they are dealing with the situation and to find solutions. There is strength in numbers. You can find power in community.
On Friday’s BlogTalkRadio.com program at noon EST, I’ll be interviewing Jim Bouchard, author of the Dynamic Components of Personal Power. Our topic: The Relationship between Personal Power and Prosperity. I hope you’ll call in or listen to the recording. http://BlogTalkRadio.com/JoanSotkin
