Getting Beyond Not Enough and Into Prosperity
I hear it over and over again, “I don’t have enough money for _____________ (fill in the blank).” The lack may relate to funds for expanding a business, improving one’s wardrobe, fixing one’s house, or perhaps just paying the rent and monthly bills on time.
Many people function at a chronic non-enough level. Although there may be brief periods of healthy cash flow, these are often followed by the familiar state of lack when unexpected expenses seem to appear out of nowhere or income unexpectedly drops.
Interestingly, I hear the not-enough complaint from people at all income levels. I’ve had clients with millions of dollars of net worth who felt they needed more in order to feel successful. It’s not unusual for me to hear the not-enough complaint from people earning six figures a year.
At the same time, I know people who seem to be satisfied no matter what they are earning. I remember reading a story about a school janitor who managed to save enough money from his salary to help fund a college education of a number of students. He perceived his life as abundant and experienced great satisfaction.
It’s Not How Much You Have, but What You Do with It
The school janitor might not have earned a huge amount of money, but obviously he made financial decisions that allowed him to put funds away to fulfill his dream of supporting others. His decisions were congruent with his goals and his situation.
The person who earns over $100,000 a year, yet has unfulfilled financial obligations and yearns for more, experiences not enough because of behaviors such as overspending or poor money management, not because of underearning.
Here’s a secret — one that you might not want to hear — if you always crave more than you have right now, you’ll crave more no matter how much you have.
Why? Because dissatisfaction and non-enough are your habit, and changing your financial position or condition is dependent on two things:
- Your willingness and efforts to alter your habitual emotional responses and state of being — not for a day or two, but forever. You need to create new neural pathways in your brain that establish satisfaction and inner peace as your habit.
- The behavioral changes you make regarding how you manage the money you have. If you aren’t willing to develop financial management skills, having enough will remain beyond your reach.
Consciously moving from one financial position to another is, in reality, a grand spiritual exercise. As you reach down to the deepest levels within yourself to reprogram your responses and behaviors, you will learn to reperceive both the nature of your being and your relationship to the world around you. The payoff is a satisfying, prosperous life.
One thing is certain: if you sustain your current emotional and financial habits, you’ll remain in your current not-enough state. And if you’ve begun to make those changes, I’d like to encourage you to keep moving forward until you experience both the internal and financial state of more than enough.
To help you do this, no matter what your current financial position might be, I’d like to ask you to consider the Peace of Mind and Prosperity Program. It is an affordable, ongoing program of help and support for those who are seeking long-term prosperity. Learn more about the program.
