Prosperity Tip: You Are Enough!

When I was living in Los Angeles in the 1980s, after attending Debtors Anonymous meetings for many months, I was introduced to the idea that codependency was at the root of my debting. Fortunately, there were a number of excellent Codependents Anonymous meetings that I attended almost daily for 18 months.

At the start of every meeting, a list of affirmations was passed around for group members to read aloud. The one that had the most potent effect for me was, “I am enough.” It took many years for me to integrate the concept, and as I work with clients and groups now, I see that many people perceive themselves to be not enough.

The craving for wealth and luxury that permeates the prosperity movement can be a reflection of a yearning to be enough. Yet in reality, fancy cars, a large house, and the accoutrements of wealth have nothing to do with our value as human beings.

You have probably heard the expression, “Your net worth is a reflection of your self-worth.” This is absurd.

Were Mother Teresa or Mahatma Gandhi suffering from a low self-worth? Perhaps it is those who thrive with the least who understand that they are enough.

Your Intrinsic Value

The fact is that there is nothing you have to do or achieve in order for you to be a person of value. Who you are provides unique talents and abilities and a perspective that no one else has to offer. The energy of You is essential for the functioning of the body of humanity.

Because you are human, you have the ability to make conscious choices and decide what kind of energy you want to contribute to the whole. Whatever you choose will have an effect, yet one choice is not better than another. What you do and what you think or believe is your choice. No judgment.

Enough Is a Feeling

Experiencing enough often takes conscious practice. If you have always focused on being not enough, then you need to learn what the state of enough feels like so you can make that one of your habitual feelings.

Here are a few suggstions:

  • Listen to your self-talk and how you talk about yourself to others. Do you apologize a lot? Do you think of yourself as someone who makes a lot of mistakes? Be aware of the “not enough” in what you think and say.
  • Stop criticizing your actions. Praise yourself instead.
  • Whenever you hear yourself degrading or demeaning yourself, stop, take a breath, and say to yourself, “I am enough.”
  • Take stock of what you have enough of. Do you have enough underwear? Dishes? Food to eat?

If you have a not-enough mindset, there’s a good chance that fear is one of the feelings you deal with often. You’ll find help with the teleclass recording of Live Fear Free in the New Economy. http://LiveFearFreeNow.com
