Using Social Media to Discover Yourself
Once you step into the world of social networking via sites like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, it doesn’t take long to see how connected we all are. In the course of a day, you can easily interact with people around the globe who share your values and interests — as well as others who might be completely different from you.
Since many people I talk to are trying to figure out what to do next with there lives, I’d like to show you how social networking can aid you in this process.
Quite a few people have expressed to me a variation of “I don’t want to use Facebook because so many people who I don’t even know want to be my friend. I’d rather just interact with people I know.”
That view is shortsighted. By looking at the profiles of people on Facebook and other social networking sites who want to “friend” you, you can learn what others are doing in both the corporate and entrepreneurial worlds. Learning about what those who have been drawn to you are doing can open your mind to new possibilities. Read the rest of this entry »
A Time of Transition
You have heard from me for a few weeks because I’ve been going through that wonderful state known as “transition.” As the world has been going through its spasmodic changes, I hopped aboard the change train and find myself reaching out in new directions.
I’m not leaving Prosperity Place and the work I do there behind, I’m just adding to the mix, hoping to provide ways for people to earn more in real-world situations.
Over the last year and a half, since I started the first Build Your Money Muscles program, I have come to see that the people who succeed are those who understand that changing one’s financial position takes time, focused attention, and a willingness to do things differently while establishing new thoughts, beliefs, and emotions. Daily Prosperity Tips on Twitter
Today I started posting daily Tweets designed to remind you to stay focused, let go of tension, take care of your money, and more. The goal is to help you develop peace of mind and prosperity at a healthy pace.
There’s a double bonus: if you aren’t using Twitter now, you’ll learn to use this social networking tool.
Here’s what to do:
1. First, if you don’t have a Twitter account, sign up for one at www.Twitter.com. Be sure to upload a picture. (Instructions for setting up the account are at http://FacebookAndTwitterForNewbies.com)
2. Then click on “Find People” and type in joansotkin. Click Follow. I’ll automatically follow you back.
3. Each day, I will tweet something and will include in the tweet #pomper. This is called a hash tag.
4. At any time, you can do a search in the search box on the right sidebar in Twitter for #pomper, and all of the tweets that have the hash tag will appear.
If you want to communicate with me on Twitter, include @joansotkin in your tweet or send me a private message by starting your tweet with D joansotkin .
The word pomper refers to people who are seeking peace of mind and prosperity (pomp). My Peace of Mind & Prosperity program includes a series of inspirational and instructional emails plus twice-monthly interactive teleclasses. Read more about the program at http://ProsperityPlace.com/pomp
Can Facebook Help You Prosper?
The short answer is YES. Here’s how:
- You can connect to like-minded people all over the world, and feeling connected is one of the emotional keys to creating prosperity.
- You can learn a lot about creative ways of developing streams of income if you network with entrepreneurs and solo practitioners.
- Your authentic self will have a means to express itself. Even though there are certain etiquettes that are best to follow, there are lots of ways to be creative.
- If you have a business or practice, you have to opportunity to carefully craft how you want to present your product or service to a large audience. This often brings up feelings that you can examine and work through as you move into a larger arena.
I especially recommend Facebook for small business owners and solo practitioners. It presents many opportunities for increasing your customer or client base.
I’ll be announcing an exciting seminar in the near future to help you learn Facebook techniques for building your business.
If you decide to give it a try, after you sign up, do a search for Joan Sotkin and add me as a Friend. Include a note that you read my blog or subscribe to Prosperity Tips. I’ll be starting a group soon where you can ask questions and get feedback from others.
Get Connected
In my book, Build Your Money Muscles, I talk a lot about connecting to others in order to create prosperity. After all, money comes from people, and if you want more money, you need more people in your life.
I’ve been taking the time to learn Facebook and other networking sites, usually referred to as social media. I’ll admit that I avoided this for a long time because it seemed too time intensive. But I can see that it has great possibilities.
The whole social media universe can seem quite daunting. Start with one and let your network grow. I think Facebook is a good place to start, There are a lot of business people congregating there now and it’s a good place to promote yourself and/or your business.
I’m reading Facebook for Dummies, which is simplifying the learning process and giving me a lot of good ideas.
If you aren’t on Facebook yet, follow these steps:
- Set up an account (it’s free) and be sure to upload a picture and fill in your bio information. What’s great about Facebook is that only your "friends" can see your profile, if that’s what you choose, so you don’t have to fee vulnerable.
- Read Facebook for Dummies
or go through the Help file on Facebook
- Add to your Friends list. You can look for people you know by searching for their name. Or go to my page (search for Joan Sotkin) and add me as a friend, then you can see who I’m friends with and ask them to be friends. Once you check their profiles, you can decide if you want to keep them on your friends list.
This is a good way to start. I’ll have more to say as I move along on this path. Take it slowly, so you’re not overwhelmed.
